Catastrophe to Trifle
So I purchased my first Christmas related cookbook the other day, Southern Living's 2010 Christmas cookbook to be exact and I am EX-TACTIC over this thing! Not only does it have 100% amazing recipes it also has some decorating for the holidays ideas. SIGN ME UP! I am all about decorating for Christmas and every year I try to do something different, so stay tuned to see how some of these new ideas come about. So onto the food. The first recipe I tried in this marvelous book FAILED COMPLETELY! It was the dark chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting. I have never had a cake to fail so this devastated me :-( After a restless sleep over what went wrong I finally figured it out! You have to let the melted chocolate cool COMPLETELY before mixing it in with the butter, sugar, and eggs.....and they literally mean COMPLETELY COOLED. Not 3 mins after melting it dump it in.....no....don't.. Geez. Well what I ended up with was a very very very moist cake that just crumbled. How did I save it you ask? Mix the crumbled cake in with the fabulous white chocolate icing. Layer it in a trifle bowl with fresh strawberries and whip cream and you've got yourself a dark/white chocolate strawberry trifle! YUM! Its even better after it has sat int he fridge overnight. The cake with the frosting is almost like a brownie consistency. Thank goodness I figured out what I did wrong so I can mess it up again!! Next time my camera will be on hand to document this catastrophe turned trifle of heaven :0)
